The story so far
From Magnobuddy to Jazz Brush Dock
Where do you put your brushes when you switch to sticks?
It’s a small question, but one that matters when you’re playing. You want your wire brushes within reach, with the fans open and ready for the next changeover. That simple need is at the heart of my brush holder designs.
The first version: Magnobuddy

Magnobuddy — the first version, mounted on the kit.
My first version, Magnobuddy, arrived in 2018. The idea was straightforward: use magnets to hold the wire fans, giving the brushes a dedicated place on the kit without having to retract them between uses.
In June 2019, Modern Drummer featured Magnobuddy in its new gear pages under UK Percussion Concepts, describing its ability to store and retrieve fanned-out wire brushes and mount on drums, cymbal stands or microphone mounts.
The next step: The Original Magnetic Drummers Brush Holder

The Original Magnetic Drummers Brush Holder — the later design, released through Drummers Brainchild in 2022.
By 2022, the idea had developed into The Original Magnetic Drummers Brush Holder, released through Drummers Brainchild. This version brought a larger holding plate, revised mounting for common drum hardware and higher-quality materials.
The purpose remained the same: keep the brushes ready and make changing between brushes and sticks easier.
Peter Erskine gave that version a warm endorsement, describing how it helped him switch between sticks and brushes with confidence in live and studio settings. His words are a lovely part of the holder’s story.
A pause along the way
I took a break from the project after a big change in my home life, when my wife developed complications following meningitis. Life as a caregiver is different, but now things have settled somewhat, I have the headspace to return to an invention I’m proud of and want to share with the drumming world.
A new chapter
Now I’m returning to the project with Jazz Brush Dock. It builds on the idea behind those earlier versions: a practical place for wire brushes, close at hand when the music calls for them.
This new website is where I’ll share the next chapter, including the product photographs, details and availability as they’re ready.
If you knew the holder as Magnobuddy or The Original Magnetic Drummers Brush Holder, welcome back. If you’re discovering it for the first time, welcome — this is the story so far.
